Cake Care Advice
How do I transport my cakes?
First things first, you will need to get your cake home. There really is no trick to it apart from being as careful as you possibly can. It helps if you can plan where you are going to put your cake while transporting it. The passenger foot-well or the boot are usually the best places but, generally, anywhere that will minimise movement is ideal. Alternatively, it may help to bring a passenger with you to hold the cake level and steady on their lap for your journey.
Please be aware that once the cake has left the premises, I are no longer liable for any damage that may occur. In the event that any damage does occur in transit, repairs may be possible depending on the damage caused and availability. Any repairs for damage caused after the cake has been collected will incur additional costs.
Always hold the cake in it’s box from underneath and be careful to keep it as level as possible.
How do I serve my cake?
If you do not need your cake immediately, I recommend putting it in the fridge as soon as you get home. For the best flavour, it is best to let the cake come up to room temperature for approximately 30 mins before serving.
Extra cake dowels and boards may have been used on some designs, especially if you have ordered a tiered cake. Where this is the case, this will be marked on the box at delivery. If you are not sure whether your cake has supports inside, feel free to get in touch with me and I will do my best to answer any questions you might have as quickly as possible.
If your cake is one of the designs that has needed a little extra stability, be careful when cutting the cake and make sure that you remove all dowels, and other inedible parts, before eating.
The rest is up to you! Feel free to serve your cake with cream, ice cream or anything else that takes your fancy! I can provide serving suggestions with your cake but you can also make your slices as big (or as small) as you like depending on how generous you are feeling, how many people you have or how much you like the idea of leftovers…
How long will my cakes keep for?
All cakes are 100% homemade and fresh from the kitchen.
That means that they taste great, but it also means that they are best consumed quickly. I recommend that you eat your cake within 24 hours of collection or delivery. Cakes covered with buttercream or ganache may last for 3-4 days. However, if your cake has cream or fresh fruit then it will last 1-2 days and should be kept refrigerated.
How do I store any leftover cake?
First of all, congratulations on having any leftovers at all! Your cake will keep best in an airtight container at a cool room temperature or in the fridge. If you don’t have a suitable container, clingfilm will work just as well. Make sure to cover cut sides as this will help to keep your cake moist for as long as possible.
Most of my cakes are covered with buttercream or ganache and are best kept out of direct sunlight.
Buttercream designs will be more susceptible to damage from being touched if they are kept at room temperature. Keeping them in the fridge can help to prevent this but, if you do keep it in the fridge, remember to let it warm up before consuming to achieve the best flavour.
